What is the SAP Cloud Platform?
The SAP Cloud Platform is a "Platform-as-a-Service" (PaaS) offering from SAP and the foundation of all SAP-Leonardo technologies. The SAP Cloud Platform enables companies to develop new business applications - for example, in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and block chain. It serves as an innovation platform because it enables companies to develop entirely new, cloud-based applications.
SAP provides companies with a range of services, functions, and tools on this open platform, each of which is end-to-end. These offerings enable developers to build, extend, and integrate their own business applications in the cloud - and run them in the cloud.
With the SAP Cloud Platform, companies gain easy access to new technologies and the ability to extend existing systems. Developers can combine and use the services offered in various ways, most obviously with existing SAP systems. Existing on-premise and cloud solutions can be extended and integrated. In principle, the individual cloud services are technical building blocks with which companies can supplement SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA. They can also be used as software-as-a-service offerings - such as SAP SucessFactors (a cloud solution for human resources management).
