What is SAP Business Suite in the cloud?

In mid-February 2025, SAP announced the reactivation of the "Business Suite" name, which was known from the ECC On-Premise era. With the new Business Suite in the Cloud, SAP now brings the company's cloud applications under one label. The foundation for this is the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).

With the new SAP Business Suite, SAP builds on the successes of the On-Premise era. The advantage of linking application modules and the seamless mapping of process chains from the earlier Business Suite is now also being realized for the company’s cloud solutions.

With the new Business Suite in the Cloud, SAP unites various technology stacks and cloud services based on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), promising seamless integration of applications and data. SAP refers to this as a "Cloud Suite."

In this context, SAP combines the SAP Cloud ERP applications (Cloud ERP Business Apps), the company's AI solutions (SAP Business AI, including AI agents in Joule), and the new SAP Business Data Cloud under the umbrella of the new SAP Business Suite. The core ERP of the new Cloud Business Suite is the SAP Public Cloud, a modular, immediately available SaaS Cloud ERP system.

The SAP Business Suite is not a new product, but rather – as defined by DSAG – a "target state" (Thomas Henzler, DSAG Specialist Board Sales, Production & Logistics), meaning a package of various solutions that can be used gradually rather than all at once.

The new SAP Business Suite is a package of solutions that consolidates all of SAP's cloud offerings under one roof. According to SAP, the SAP Business Suite combines AI functions, data, and core business apps.

The components of the SAP Business Suite:

• Cloud ERP system – as the strategic product, the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition (including Financial Management, Spend Management, Supply Chain Management, Human Capital Management, Customer Experience)
• Cloud ERP apps (business apps for ERP with integrated AI functions)
• Joule AI agents (intelligent, autonomous systems that understand business processes and work across functions in an automated manner)
• SAP Business Data Cloud (as the new central platform for all corporate data from SAP and third parties)
• SAP Business Data Platform (as the strategic innovation and integration platform for data and analytics, AI, application development, automation, and integration)

SAP Business Suite 7 refers to the bundle of solutions that SAP offered for SAP ECC since the 2000s. Mainstream maintenance for Business Suite 7 will end in 2027 (with extended maintenance available until 2030).

SAP Business Suite 7 is a collection of various applications that enable companies to integrate their data, processes, and functions. The suite includes solutions such as SAP Enterprise Resource Planning 6.0 (SAP ERP), SAP Supply Chain Management 7.0 (SAP SCM), and SAP Product Lifecycle Management 7.0 (SAP PLM).

The German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG) welcomes SAP's strategic decision, as the Business Suite highlights the "strengths of SAP and a suite-first approach." 

The outlook for more SAP-managed integrations is also seen as a positive development.

With the SAP Business Suite for the cloud, companies can, according to SAP, "scale faster than ever, develop innovations, and adjust their processes as needed."

With the new SAP Business Suite in the Cloud, SAP aims to offer end-to-end processes in the cloud – in an integrated package.

To achieve this, SAP unites various cloud services and technology stacks under one roof and label. The foundation for the new SAP Business Suite is the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).
