"It's not just about completing a project. It's about getting everyone safely to their destination and not losing anyone along the way."
Philipp Fischer works as a project manager at GAMBIT. In this role, he is responsible for the project plans, budget planning and quality assurance of various SAP projects. He often leads roadmap projects and SAP S/4HANA greenfield implementations. He is also responsible for Programme & Project Management.
"I accept the offer - and then we'll see what happens." This is how Philipp describes the moment he decided to start his career at GAMBIT and swap the Palatinate for the Rhineland. The cautious attempt has turned into consistency: Ten years later, Philipp is still part of the team.
"The people here were just so warm and helpful," he says. "I quickly made genuine friendships that still exist today."
Philipp also quickly gained a foothold at a professional level - and gradually progressed from project member to project manager. "It just developed organically," he says.
How does he deal with so much responsibility in the project? "You can think of project management like travelling on a boat," says Philipp. "You know your route to your destination, but unforeseen things keep happening along the way. Then you have to adjust your course to avoid shipwreck. You don't just want to get to your destination at all costs, but also in good condition - with an intact boat and a healthy crew."
The metaphor is no coincidence. Philipp also loves sailing in his private life - a hobby that challenges him physically and mentally, but also offers plenty of relaxation. "My favourite moment is when you pull into a secluded bay at the end of a long day at sea, eat your simple dinner and drink your beer - there's nothing better."
Philipp's points of view
"What I really appreciate about GAMBIT is that the management thinks in a visionary way," says Philipp. This creates space for all employees to contribute and realise their own innovative ideas.
Every project has its stumbling blocks. As project manager, it is Philipp's job to get these out of the way. "I'm a kind of flow manager," he says. "I make sure that nothing comes to a standstill."
"I have the bad quality of getting bored quickly," says Philipp. But as a project manager, he can fortunately work on many different topics - so there's no chance of boredom.
Philipp likes to spend his free time in bouldering gyms. The sport not only requires climbing skills, but also a lot of creativity. "The trickier the routes get, the more I have to experiment."
